Some colleges and universities consider demonstrated interest.

What is the best way to demonstrate interest for a school that considers it?

Schools consider a variety of different factors when evaluating college applications. Some schools, such as American University, Evergreen State College, Pitzer College, Seattle University, and Tulane University, pay attention to a student’s demonstrated interest in their school when they consider a student’s application.

Not all colleges consider demonstrated interest, but for those that do, strengthen your application by strengthening your connection to the school.

To demonstrate interest in a school:

• Attend a college representative’s visit to your high school.

• Attend a virtual information session or interview with an admissions officer.

• Sign up for the college’s email list and regularly look at linked articles and videos.

• Visit a campus in person, or tour a campus virtually online.

Keep track of the name and contact information of everyone that you interact with at the school, whether a college representative or a tour guide. Follow up to thank them for sharing their time and expertise, and ask any specific questions that you have about programs that you are interested in.
