WHAT DOES “DENY” MEAN?
Results from early decision and early action applications will be released to seniors soon.
What does “deny” mean?
12th Graders:
To receive a “deny” from a school, particularly a school that you like, is hard. A “deny” means that the school has reviewed your application and they have chosen not to accept you into their next class. Your process at that school has come to a close, and you are now able to move forward with other possibilities in your college process.
Take a moment to reflect. Hang out with supportive family or friends and do what makes you feel better, whether that’s going for a hike, watching a movie, or eating some ice cream. Give yourself some space, then plan to move on. The gift of a “deny” is that it is definitive. No more waiting or wondering is required. Instead, you can now find a number of other schools that will be a great fit for you. Focus your time and energy on creating strong regular decision applications for schools where you have a good chance of acceptance.
11th Graders:
The college process is a process and not a destination. As you research schools to apply to next year, give yourself many different options and know that there are multiple colleges and universities where you will be happy. The goal of your college process is to find several good-fit campuses to apply to next fall.
